Do you recall hearing this one?  Either stated or implied, a food or drink additive was often blamed.

The additive was actually "noise".

No individual can eat or drink their way through it.  Permission or authorization is or isn't given or sought post or prior.

One alleged "benefit":
  • Individuals who couldn't "handle the pressure" or were there for "the wrong reasons" tend to "wash out" quickly.
There are both physical and mental avenues for "molding" an individual's mind.  Neither should be necessary when someone consciously decides to join the military.

Except for that tiny detail about always following orders without question...
