#125. Finding computer software which isn't becoming more difficult to use or learn is nearly impossible.

Do you use a laptop or PC?  Are there certain programs which get the majority of your work done?

Were any downgraded during the past few years? That's when something that worked well was changed or replace with something that didn't.  Menu items disappear from view.  Labels are moved or can't decide what they are without a rename.

Woke mentality isn't about awareness.

It's about uncertainty and believing that change means improvement.

Instead of some detailed analysis between version whatever and version whatever +- an iteration (quick turnarounds mean managers can show progress which unfortunately provides the best way of proving their worth) we'll pick on Google.

They make the best target for one very important reason:

  • Every developer at Google has the ability and skill to "outperform" or "exceed expectations".
  • That's how they were hired in the first place.
  • For those who take pride in the functionality of the work they produce... being required to produce less-then-optimal code or algorithms is "hell".

That's all it takes.

Leaving work each day knowing you could have created something more elegant, efficient, or mind boggling but were required to do less... is unfortunate.

When it means the end user deals with continuous degradation of the product... it shouldn't happen.

There are 2  root causes which need to take blame:

We see productivity and planning at odds:

  1. "Something" is negatively affecting  logic, reasoning, comprehension, or focus.
  2. "Something" is creating desire for ever greater control, visibility into time spent, and acceptance without question.
Attempts to improve one are destroying the other.  Both share a root cause which isn't being recognized.

We assume the following has been stated by someone before.  It may or may not be backward.
  • We definitely do not believe that excellent developers lead managers to believe they have complete or precise control over software development.
  • We also don't believe this can lead to any kind of "work issues" when a single instance of taking longer than an initial estimate or more complexity than expected... surfaces.
We do or don't.

Do you see where we're going?

More information will be provided.
