If you have a vague or fuzzy memory of something similar then hold on to it! It's a memory that's irreplaceable and priceless or horrific but needed for understanding.
So what happened to these individuals?
It sometimes took months or longer to happen, but once their "legs" were "kicked out from under them" they were gone in the blink of an eye.
All their belongings - home, car, clothes - were left behind exactly as they were.
For some unbelievable reason, only those closest to them and who cared or loved them the most noticed the event. It may or may not have pained them.
Should you treat those you care about or love with less than the respect, consideration, and patience which all deserve...
You may realize too late that instead of a "good night" before bed you were told a "good bye" and someone you can't live without has disappeared.
