National Security Secret #67

#67. Like any business which doesn't have to compete for customers, a cable company can be lazy.

What did you expect the title to say?  That all cable companies are monopolies and they're destroying the ozone layer, baby penguins, and responsible for driving mythical unicorns extinct?

You're starting to sound like a hilariously unstable person.

Despite your belief in unicorns, a lazy company may unintentionally forget to make repairs to their equipment.  They may use other available options which have a different expense but require less actual work.

Have you ever noticed a thin and sparse wire wrap on the outside of cable provider lines?  Here's a picture in case you've never noticed:

Do you know what that little wire does?

Do you know what can happen when that little wire breaks?

Any broken section creates an opening where the protective static electric field around the line leaks away.  Because a static electric field doesn't just form where a cable terminates, it's distributed along the entire line to shield us from situations where a line is carrying more current than it's rated for and so leaks radiation (microwaves) along it's entire length.

Do you get the picture (photo below)?

There are also instances that a cable is damaged or cut where a static electric field won't hold.  That's when radio frequency current sprays out like a fountain.  As long as the damage is found and fixed, no big deal.

But a lazy company may not see value in all the work.  Should another option exist - like increasing the amount of radio frequency current in the system to compensate - it may get used instead.

And again and again... right about the time those little breaks in the wire wrap should have been fixed.

Words to remember: "Don't overthink it".

Yeah, right.

Every company should compete for customers without exception.

Then no one needs to "overthink" anything.

More information will be provided.
