#32. The Florida condominium collapse that killed 98 people occurred from structural damage due to unspecified causes.
Have those unspecified causes been revealed to the public yet? It happened in June of 2021 after all.
Hints: "Major structural damage" was found under the pool deck and quite a bit of damage to the walls and columns of the parking garage under the building. As with so many things nowadays, those would seem to be unrelated.
Water is quite good at attenuating things like light and electromagnetic waves of different frequencies. Under the right circumstances that can result in energy focused in unexpected ways and in surprising directions.
As for the parking garage, our modern vehicles are made from several types of conducting materials. This means the presence of oscillating current will turn most vehicles into wide spectrum antennas - though it's mostly just static or noise being transmitted.
What happens to nearby things which are also conductive? If you guessed they will absorb the signal then re-radiate a weaker signal, convert some of it to heat, and some if it to more oscillating current then you're correct.
The concrete making up the walls and columns of the parking garage under the building should block most of any signal from getting to the rebar they contain. But for rebar close to the surface of the concrete and with vehicles as antennas at point blank range it won't make a difference.
Just the expansion and contraction from heating and cooling of the rebar will accelerate wear for the concrete.
How long did it take to cause the damage which collapsed the building?
