#25. Both figuratively and literally, cough syrup and cold medicine will soon be a thing of the past.
Wars can be won quietly without signs of a struggle.
The memories of life's ups and downs will soon be forgotten.
So, with as much dignity as possible:
- "Good bye" ephedrine ala pseudoephedrine and red phosphorus.
- "Good bye" to iodine in it's difficult to find crystal form (unless one were to cool a cookie sheet using dry ice and flash evaporate an iodine solution directly under it).
- "Good bye" easy-to-obtain lithium from rechargeable batteries.
- "Good bye" to any possibility of finding anhydrous ammonia outside of a rural farm in those cylindrical tanks that periodically vent.
- "Good bye" to any reason for generating dry hydrogen and bubbling it through a solution to form anything salt-like.
- "Good bye" to weak acid solutions for cleaning sidewalks or driveways.
- "Good bye" toluene with its nonsensical ability to fractionally separate compounds based on their affinity for water versus oil - you were never meant to be used that way.
- "Good bye" gasoline purchased without a car tank to fill.
- And, of course, "good bye" to a multitude of other "somethings" that are at most a step or two away from the other farewells above.
