#15. Slot machines are designed to use hypnosis on those operating them.

How can a statement like this be made with any degree of certainty?  It's a valid question and it's answer is through twists of logic.

Whether slot machines affect how much a player is ok with winning or losing is unknown.  Another unknown is whether any slot machine manufacturer has ever planned or performed studies to look into whether slot machines, hypnosis, gambling addiction, or later forms of addiction are linked.

Consider the subjective questions below before choosing what to believe:

  1. What machines do we know of that can convince the person operating them to believe it will consistently benefit them financially purely due to luck or random chance?
    • Combine harvester (farming equipment) - NO.
      • Machines of this type currently do not convince farmers to believe they will consistently benefit from them due to luck or chance.
    • Semi-trailer truck (vehicle) - NO.
      • Machines of this type currently do not convince drivers to believe they will consistently benefit from them due to luck or chance.
    • Laptop, computer, or phone - MAYBE.
      • Are you using it for online slot machine games?
    • Powerboat or Jet Ski (water craft) - NO.
      • Machines of this type currently do not convince vacationers to believe they will consistently benefit from them due to luck or chance.
    • Slot machine (gambling) - YES.
      • Machines of this type either attract players already possessing such a belief or they convince players to believe they will consistently benefit from them due to luck or chance even as losses mount.  The belief is accepted deeply enough that few can admit when it happens.

  2. Does the decision to "Get up and leave" a machine or "Stay and play again" represent equal choices every time the decision is presented?
    • Try sitting down at any machine and playing 1 time.  Then have someone tell you "Let's go!" and measure how long it takes to leave the machine.

    • Next try sitting down at any machine and playing for 20 minutes.  Then have someone tell you "Let's go!" and measure how long it takes to leave the machine.

    • If the amount of time it takes to leave either machine differs then it may be inferred (but not proven) that the choices were not equal in some way.

  3. Is it possible to cheat when operating slot machines?
    • Only the slot machine manufacturers might know the answer to that.  Which means it would take an act of God for it to be known.  Seeing the financial information of any privately held "gaming" or gambling corporation is just as unlikely.
